Christopher was standing on a piece of equipment that was meant to lift barrels and dump them in to a hopper. He had stopped to help empty the hopper and when he was finished, as he tried to lower the lift he was standing on, he was crushed.
According to the OSHA report, the switch on the lift was broken, and had been for some time. No one has ever told me if he knew that this switch was broken. The lift should have stopped as soon as Christopher let go of the switch but because it didn't work that was it was designed to - it kept moving and his chest was crushed. He died a short time later. I don't understand work comp. laws at all - Jennie-O-Turkey Store is protected by the law?? --- What about my son and his grieving family!! Who protects us.
